Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) can be a valuable addition to the work of psychotherapists, counsellors, hypnotherapists and other trained clinicians.
My EFT International-accredited training is designed for groups of professionals who want to integrate EFT into their existing therapeutic practice, with an emphasis on safety, ethical awareness and a sound understanding of the therapeutic relationship.
Whether you're a group of psychotherapists, counsellors, hypnotherapists or other therapeutic professionals, my aim is to help you develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to integrate EFT thoughtfully and effectively with your existing approach.
Learning EFT involves much more than knowing where to tap or which words to use.
Effective practice requires an understanding of how and when to use EFT, how to respond to what emerges during a session, and how to work safely within the boundaries of your professional competence.
My training combines guided video learning with live, interactive teaching and supported practice. This gives you time to absorb new ideas, develop your skills and reflect on how EFT fits within your existing therapeutic approach.
Throughout the training, I place particular emphasis on the therapeutic relationship, practitioner self-awareness and the ethical responsibilities that come with working therapeutically with others.
The aim is not simply to teach a new technique, but to help you integrate EFT into your practice with confidence, understanding and professional integrity.
As therapists, we know that emotional difficulties aren't experienced solely in the mind. They can also be felt throughout the body, in our breathing, muscle tension, physical sensations and nervous system responses.
EFT offers a way of working with both aspects of our experience. By combining cognitive and emotional processing with gentle stimulation of specific points on the body, it brings a somatic dimension to therapeutic work. EFT is therefore a cognitive-somatic approach, engaging both mind and body in the therapeutic process.
An interesting aspect of EFT is its potential interaction with the body's bioelectrical signalling systems. Research reviewed by David Feinstein (2025) explores how tapping may influence emotional processing through physiological mechanisms, including mechanosensory transduction — the conversion of mechanical stimulation into electrical signals.
Schwarz and Stapleton (2026) propose four interconnected psychological mechanisms through which EFT may facilitate therapeutic change:
The authors suggest that these processes interact and reinforce one another, with improved emotional regulation and reduced avoidance potentially creating the conditions for deeper cognitive and emotional change.
Together, these proposed physiological and psychological mechanisms offer an interesting bridge between EFT and established psychotherapeutic principles. Although research into precisely how EFT works is ongoing, they provide a framework for understanding how cognitive, emotional and somatic processes may contribute to lasting therapeutic change.
For psychotherapists, counsellors, hypnotherapists and other therapeutic professionals, EFT doesn't need to replace an existing model. Instead, it offers a complementary approach that can be integrated into your existing therapeutic paradigm, enriching the ways in which you help clients explore and process their experiences while remaining grounded in the therapeutic relationship and the principles of your own professional practice.
It's EFT plus the therapeutic approach you already know and trust.
